Although the wildfires and the associated smoke and low visibility almost threw a wrench into our plans, we were able to have a fun and successful day.
“We are thankful for all those who flew and drove in,” Thurston Pritchard, the Club’s Treasurer stated. “The Smoke made it a bit challenging at times but that did not stop the fun.”
“We flew 126 Young Eagle flights with the help of eight aircraft and pilots.” “I have not seen so many smiling young ones in a long time.” Norma Staaf, reporter for our local Clearwater Progress newspaper shared some of the comments made by Young Eagles:
Awesome, epic, fun, pretty cool, I want to do that again!
Young Eagles, after enjoying their flight
The Young Eagles flights were a big draw. The tasty pancake, sausage and egg breakfast and lunch, served in the hangar “Restaurant” is also always a favorite. Breakfast and lunch were prepared and served by club members and dedicated volunteers that showed up and helped out.
“We are so grateful for all your hard work,” Thurston Pritchard stated. Thank you as well to all sponsors, vendors, and visitors!
Music was provided by Joshua Crosby, a local musician. He also served as the emcee for the event. Joshua is a pilot who learned to fly with CVAC and served as a previous club president.
Aviation enthusiasts enjoyed checking out some of the aircraft. To chat with the pilots and listen to their stories is always exciting as well. Some of the other attractions were the delicious Ice cream and snow cones, hitting the spot on a hot day. There were prize drawings for kids, a 50/50 raffle and a silent auction. The proceeds help the club to continue it’s mission.
We are already looking forward to next years fly in. It is scheduled for Saturday July 9, 2022.
